Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh (UP) is the most populous state in India, located in the north, with Lucknow as its capital and Prayagraj as its judicial capital. Established in 1950 from the United Provinces, it lies in the fertile Indo-Gangetic Plain, where the Ganges and Yamuna rivers meet. Agriculture is a major activity, and the state has diverse cultures and languages, with Hindi as the primary language and Urdu also officially recognized.

Uttar Pradesh has three UNESCO World Heritage Sites, all in or near the famous city of Agra.

  • Agra
    • Taj Mahal – The famous white marble mausoleum built by Shah Jahan.
    • Agra Fort – A massive red sandstone fort that served as the main residence of the Mughal emperors.
    • Fatehpur Sikri – A historic city built by Akbar, known for its well-preserved Mughal architecture.
