Mexico is home to one of the world’s oldest civilizations, with human settlement dating back over 11,000 years. Following the Spanish conquest in 1521, Mexico became the center of New Spain, a wealthy colonial territory fueled by silver mining and global trade. The country gained independence in 1821 after the Mexican War of Independence and has since evolved into a federal democratic republic.
Today, Mexico is one of the world’s largest economies and a leading tourism destination, celebrated for its rich cultural heritage, diverse landscapes, and exceptional biodiversity. It is home to 35 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, more than any other country in the Americas, and offers everything from ancient archaeological sites and colonial cities to tropical beaches, deserts, mountains, and vibrant culinary traditions.
