Greece is known for its ancient history, gorgeous islands, birthplace of Olympic Games – all of which drew us towards visiting the country. We planned a 2-week itinerary that covered archeological sites from Athens in the south to Thessaloniki in the northeast. It also included a visit to the islands of Santorini and Crete.

- Day 1 – Land in Athens in the morning and site seeing – Overnight Athens
- Day 2 – Athens site seeing – Overnight Athens
- Day 3 – Corinth Canal, Mycenae, Nafplion, Epidaurus – Overnight Athens (Viator tour from Athens)
- Day 4 – Drive to Delphi – Overnight Delphi
- Day 5 – Delphi site seeing in the morning ; Drive to Meteora in the afternoon – Overnight Meteora
- Day 6 – Meteora site seeing – Overnight Meteora
- Day 7 – Meteora site seeing in the morning ; Drive to Ioannina in the afternoon – Overnight Ioannina
- Day 8 – Ioannina site seeing in the morning ; Drive to Thessaloniki in the afternoon – Overnight Thessaloniki
- Day 9 – Thessaloniki site seeing – Overnight Thessaloniki
- Day 10 – Morning fly to Santorini – Overnight Santorini

- Day 12 – Santorini site seeing morning ; Ferry to Crete in the afternoon – Overnight Crete

We stayed in Athens for 3 nights and on the fourth day, rented the car to drive to all the places on the map below. This gave us more flexibility and avoided dragging our luggage through airports and/or train stations. We returned the car in Thessaloniki, took a flight from Thessaloniki to Santorini and then a high speed ferry from Santorini to Crete.
On one of the 4 days we stayed in Athens, we took a Viator guided tour of Mycenae, Nafplio, and Epidaurus (see map below)
