About 93 miles east of Richmond, we visited the city of Norfolk in July 2018 mainly to meet and spend a day with my childhood friend Rabin, who had settled there many years ago. Rabin and me had lived and grown up together in HAL(Hindustan Aeronautics Limited) colony in the city of Hyderabad, India.
Norfolk is a waterfront city in southeastern Virginia, and home to a naval base on Chesapeake Bay. Rabin and his wife Sherri were fantastic hosts and took us around this beautiful place.
Norfolk Waterfront – Norfolk’s waterfront is a vibrant place offering unmatched views, harbor tours, dining, and shopping experiences.
The Norfolk Mermaid sculpture situated along the banks of Elizabeth river was commissioned to celebrate the redevelopment of downtown Norfolk’s Town Point Park.
Boating on the Elizabeth river – The Elizabeth River is a 6-mile-long estuary at the southern end of Chesapeake Bay that provides significant military and commercial port facilities for the 3 cities of Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Chesapeake which surround the Elizabeth River. The Elizabeth River is the home of the oldest shipyard in the United States, the Norfolk Navel Shipyard which was founded in 1767, and still in use today.
Boat cruise is a great way to see the world’s largest naval base and Norfolk harbor. We went on a 2-hour boat tour on Elizabeth river with Rabin and Sherri.
