About 150 miles west of Richmond, this scenic park was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a National Historic Landmark in 1988. At the center of the park, sits the 200-foot tall Natural Bridge in a limestone gorge carved out by Cedar Creek. We spent a couple of hours at this place.
The main trail here leads from the visitors center to the gushing Lace falls through the Natural Bridge. The flow of water along the trail, and the lush forest, makes this hike all the more remarkable and worthwhile. Starting from the visitors center all the way to Lace Falls (1-way) is 1.25 miles. You return the same way.
Natural Bridge – After navigating a stairway with 137 steps in the beginning, and hiking the scenic trail you will arrive at the stunning natural bridge within the first quarter mile.
Pictures don’t do justice to how spectacular the arch looks, worth every penny of the $9 we paid at the entrance. The iconic Natural Bridge, is 215-foot tall limestone arch that spans 90 feet across Cedar Creek. For couples looking for a one-of-a-kind wedding location, look no further than Natural Bridge State Park. From April through November, weddings can be held at the Bridge.
Continue on through the bridge to the other side and the view is as spectacular.
Lace Falls – After walking to the other side of the Natural Bridge, continue for another mile, and you will arrive at the gorgeous and gushing Lace Falls with its 50-foot cascade. There is also a cave on the way to Lace Falls.
