Lined by Highway 101 to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west, the Oregon Coast is 363 miles (584 km) of rugged shoreline, with hiking trails, beaches, breathtaking vistas and many lighthouses. We went on a day trip to a couple of beaches from Portland (80 miles and 90 min drive) and visited the following 2 beaches:
- Cannon Beach
- Arcadia Beach
Cannon Beach – Haystack Rock in cannon beach is one of the most recognizable and popular attraction in Oregon coast. At 235 feet tall, Haystack rock is protected as part of the Oregon islands National Wildlife refuge, providing habitat to a wide range of seabirds.
Acadia Beach – This is a 1-mile sandy beach situated 3 miles south of Cannon Beach. It is a wonderful place to take a walk and enjoy the view.
If road trips are your thing, there are 9 historic lighthouses along the Oregon’s coastline and plenty of scenic views in between. This is one trip on my list of things to do in the near future.
