Louisville is the most populous city in Kentucky. We visited this beautiful city in June of 2021 when Covid restrictions were still at its height. We spent a few hours walking along the uncrowded waterfront and downtown area. Many of the restaurants and businesses were closed and the downtown looked a bit gloomy.

- Downtown Louisville
Louisville Waterfront – is a peaceful oasis in the heart of the city, you get a great view of the Big Four Bridge that crosses the Ohio River, connecting Waterfront Park to Jeffersonville, Indiana. It has well maintained lawns and walking paths. We spent a couple of hours here walking around and watched the sunset.

Louisville Waterfront, Lincoln Memorial – Dedicated in the summer of 2009, the Lincoln Memorial at Waterfront Park was part of the bicentennial celebration of Lincoln’s birth. The memorial features a 12-foot statue of Lincoln seated on a rock, looking out over the river. Four bas-reliefs (a type of sculpture carved from flat surrounding stone) illustrate Lincoln’s ties to Kentucky. The memorial site, features an amphitheater facing the river with granite seating that includes engravings of four famous Lincoln quotes. The canopy of trees that lead to the amphitheater includes several species that were favorites of Lincoln.

Downtown Louisville, Louisville Slugger – 120 foot tall replica of Babe Ruth’s Louisville Slugger at the entrance of the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory. The museum showcases the story of Louisville Slugger baseball bats in baseball and in American history.

Downtown Louisville, Golden David – Right near the slugger museum, stands the 30 feet tall David statue, in all its bronzed glory. This particular David is owned by the 21c Museum Hotel chain, outside whose headquarters he has lived since 2012.
This giant copy was created by Turkish-born New York City artist Serkan Ozkaya, who had never seen Michelangelo’s version. He based this one on a computer model previously created at Stanford University. You can learn more about the statue here – https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_(inspired_by_Michelangelo)

Downtown Louisville, Mirror – There was a huge tiled mirror located across from the statue of David. We thought it looked interesting and stopped by and took some pictures.
