Alaska

Alaska is one of the two non-contiguous U.S. states (along with Hawaii) and is located in the northwest extremity of North America. Some facts about Alaska include –

  • It is the largest U.S. state by area and has the lowest population density in the nation
  • It is home to Denali, the tallest peak in North America.
  • Has more volcanoes than Hawaii, with 90 considered active.
  • Has more active glaciers and ice fields than the rest of the inhabited world combined.

  • Capitol – Juneau
  • Admitted to the Union – January 3, 1959 (49th State)

We visited the following places in Alaska on a 7-day Norwegian Cruise in 2011.

  • Cruise Ship & Glacier Bay
  • Ketchikan
  • Juneau
  • Skagway
