We visited this country in the summer of 2019. We had visited Netherlands the previous week and it was easy to get a direct flight to Braga from Amsterdam. Braga is a capitol city of the northwestern Portuguese district of Braga. After exploring the cities of Braga and Guimaraes, we drove south visiting the cities of Porto, Coimbra, and ended our trip in Lisbon.
We found it a lot more flexible, and time saving to rent a car and drive to all the cities we had planned to visit. The roads were all in good condition and we did not get lost even once. We rented a hotel or Airbnb close to the city center in all the cities we visited. We needed to use the car only while travelling between cities as most attractions within each city were walkable.
