The Netherlands quite literally means low-lying country, and it lives up to the name. The landscape is strikingly flat, with wide expanses of lakes, rivers, and canals.
Because it’s relatively small, most of the places we visited were within easy driving distance of Amsterdam, where we stayed for four nights. We rented a car for the duration of our stay, which gave us the flexibility to explore more places and make the most of our limited time.
