We visited Portugal in the summer of 2019, flying into Braga, the capital of the Braga district in northwestern Portugal. Renting a car for the week gave us the flexibility to travel efficiently and see more of the country. After spending two days exploring Braga and nearby Guimarães, we drove south, visiting Porto and Coimbra before ending our trip in Lisbon.
Renting a car made traveling between cities convenient and time-efficient. The roads were in excellent condition, and navigation was straightforward throughout the journey. We stayed in hotels or Airbnbs near each city center, making it easy to explore the main attractions on foot. The car was primarily used for travel between cities, as most sights within each destination were within walking distance.
