Athens – Day 14

Overnight – Aethon Airport Project Hotel

On the penultimate day of our trip, we flew into Athens from Greece and stayed in a hotel close to the airport in the neighborhood of Markopoulo Mesogaias. The hotel provides pickup-drop services to the airport. There was a beautiful church that could be seen from the balcony of our hotel – Saint Nicholas Orthodox church. We stopped by in the evening to check out the inside which was as beautiful as the outside.

We walked down to the town center for dinner, after which, we took a stroll around the plaza which had a a beautiful church.

One last note/observation about Athens – Athens is a paradise for graffiti artists. I have traveled to many cities around the world that do have some amount of graffiti, but Athens takes the cake, you will find graffiti splashed on literally every building – shops, homes, bus stops, even some Byzantine walls. It could be a combination of high youth unemployment and authorities stretched too thin to do much about it, resulting in an artistic free-for-all on city walls.
