We visited Jamaica in December of 2017. After some research and planning, we decided to visit the cities of Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Kingston, and Negril. We found that the best option for us, was to fly into Montego Bay which was centrally located and drive to all the other places. Also, there were a lot more flights into Montego Bay from US than any other city in Jamaica.
Renting a car – After doing some more research on ‘driving in Jamaica’, we found that the best way to experience Jamaica is by car at your own pace. All the cities we were visiting were to the north of the country where the roads were in good condition. Self-driving in Jamaica gives you the independence to stop as you please and absorb everything.
Our Itinerary was as follows –
- Montego Bay – Day 1, 2
- Green Grotto Caves & Saint Ann – Day 3 (Overnight in Ocho Rios)
- Ocho Rios – Day 4 (Overnight in Ocho Rios)
- Kingston – Day 5, 6 (5th night in Kingston, 6th night in Montego Bay)
- Negril – Day 7 (Overnight in Montego Bay)
To summarize –
- We stayed for 4 nights in Montego Bay (Day 1, 2, 6, 7)
- 2 nights in Ocho Rios (Day 3, 4)
- 1 night in Kingston (Day 5)
