Tallahassee

Tallahassee, the capital of Florida, blends government, history, and Southern charm with a laid-back, college-town vibe. We stopped by this city in 2022 to visit the capital building.

Florida State Capitol Building Complex – We visited both the old and the new Capital buildings, both of which are located in the same complex. The new capitol building stands directly behind the old capitol building. The entire Capitol Complex, maintained by the Florida Department of Management Services, is open to the public on weekdays.

Florida Historic Capitol Museum – The original Capitol building built in 1845 and restored to its 1902 appearance, was saved from demolition in the 1970s and now serves as the Florida Historic Capitol Museum, showcasing the state’s political history.

Florida New Capitol Building – Built in 1970, the 22-story New capitol building stands directly behind the old capitol building and houses the governor’s office, legislature, and state agencies.

Cotton Farms – As you drive along Florida’s interstates, you’ll pass expansive cotton fields dotted with white, fluffy balls, often compared to a blanket of snow.
