Maryland is a state in the northeastern part of United States with Atlantic Ocean to its east and the national capital and federal district of Washington D.C. to its southwest. It is the birthplace of the national Anthem – Francis Scott Key wrote The Star-Spangled Banner after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry in Baltimore during the War of 1812. Maryland’s capitol, Annapolis was briefly the nations capitol from 1783-1784.
