Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve is a wildlife sanctuary in the state of Maharashtra. The nearest airport to this place is the city of Nagpur which is about 106 km south of Tadoba. The park is Maharashtra’s oldest and largest national park created in 1955, and consists of 577.96 square km of reserved forest and 32.51 square km of protected forest.
We visited this safari park in December of 2022. We flew into Nagpur and our cousin who had arranged this trip picked us up at the airport. It was then a 3-hour drive to our resort in Tadoba. Our visit was for a period of 3 days that included 4 sessions of jeep safari.
- There are 2 sessions per day of 4 hours each
- Morning session runs from 6am-10am
- Afternoon session runs from 2pm-6pm
We were lucky to see tigers in 2/4 sessions. In addition to tigers the park is full of deer, boar, Bisons, and more than 200 species of birds.
Our Resort – The place we stayed in had a rustic feel. The rooms were spacious and clean without being too modern. The food was great and we had a good time overall.

Session 1 and 2 – Although we did not see any tigers during our first 2 sessions, we sighted many other mammals and birds which share this forest. The safari jeep we traveled in, came with a driver and guide who were familiar with the park. You are not allowed to use your cell phones, but cameras are allowed. They take away your cell phone before you enter the park and return it when you exit.

Sessions 3 and 4 – We saw some tigers in these sessions. In session 3, a tiger was relaxing in the afternoon sun on the side of the jeep path after a good meal. We got a great picture and a video of the tiger whose name is apparently Rudra.

During our final session, we were fortunate to see a tiger and its 4 cubs walking across an area into the forest of trees.

We noticed some elaborately woven nests hanging from trees.

A note about the jeep ride – Since the path is unpaved, the ride will be bumpy. If you have any electronic gadget that tracks your steps, like an iWatch or Fitbit, you will be happy to know that you walked 20,700 steps and climbed 82 flights of stairs even if you did not 🙂
